GENERAL: If you're looking for a wireless plan where you know EXACTLY what you'll get and what you'll pay *up front*, Tracfone would appear to be the best choice. In order for you to make and receive calls (to have wireless service and a phone number) with Tracfone, you need three things: (1) A cellphone that is set up to work with Tracfone, purchased through a .com or a local store that carries the phones; (2) Wireless Service; (3) Minutes of Airtime. Wireless Service can be obtained and maintained by purchasing Airtime Cards ranging from 40 to 400 Minutes of Airtime. These cards carry Wireless Service for a given period of time up to 3 months. You can also purchase Wireless Service as a "plan" by purchasing Prepaid Plan cards which have 1 Year of service along with from 150 to 300 minutes included. You can always add more minutes during the service period.
This will extend your service for up to 120 days beyond when your plan card expires (a date which is determined by the date that you "redeem" the airtime card by activating it either on your phone or online). Tracfone's price is THE price, no taxes or fees for service/minutes. Those additional charges add up with other companies.
ADVICE: I would highly recommend the Double Minute Prepaid Plan. Right now there is a package deal for the Prepaid Wireless Service + Airtime + Phone. It offers: (1) A really nice Digital (GSM) Nokia 1100 phone; (2) Nationwide NO ROAMING (which means you are not charged two minutes for every minute that you are roaming as with many other plans); (3) Free incoming text messages and only 0.3 minutes/units per outgoing messages (3) Free Voicemail and Caller ID; (4) $200 in potential savings with included Coupons; (4) DOUBLE the number of minutes with every future purchase of Minutes of Airtime for the *same* price (e.g., a 150 minute card becomes a 300 minute card for the same purchase price). The no roaming feature alone is worth it but the double minutes will really serve you well. If you JUST buy the package for the going price of $129.99 and take the 300 minutes you'll get the great phone (which is worth over $100) and be paying (all inclusive) about 0.47/minute. If you get 100 bonus minutes from my referral, you pay 0.32/minute -- Already a big drop.
Buy a 400 minute airtime card and use the bonus promotional code of 57659 for another 50 minutes with that purchase (450 total PLUS double for having the Double Minute Plan = 900 minutes) and you'll be 0.10/minute (with NO additional fees or taxes). NOTE: You also get 10 minutes with the Nokia 1100 phone PLUS another 10 for activating online. So really the plan gives you 320 minutes to start with. Not bad. NOTE: The referral for 100 BONUS MINUTES will work with *any* new Tracfone service. |
